Peace is essential for the stability of any social unit. It’s the glue that binds community together. Where peace is assured, then the growth and prosperity of any given nation is guaranteed. One of the best ways to attain peace is through prayer and devotion to God’s Holy Word.
This blog provides Bible scriptures both from the New Testament and the Old Testament that will help you understand what God says about peace. As a Christian, you’ll get to learn that peace is a blessing that only Christ Jesus can grant.
Numbers 6:24-26
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
This verse reaffirms what we all know. That, the blessing of peace can only come from God. While these words were meant for Moses and his brother Aaron, they’re a reminder of the Lord’s promise to all believers.
That, He will grant peace even in the wilderness. This means that you can rest assured that all will work out even amidst trying times.
John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
This scripture reiterates God’s promise to all believers. Yes, you will face tribulations that are from the world. But He will provide you with peace amidst all the trials and hardships.
The verse is designed to instill hope among God’s faithful. It teaches that to know God is to know peace eternalized.
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a child is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Christ Jesus is the Prince of Peace. This scripture from Isaiah reflects God’s nature. As long as you trust in Him, you’ll be able to experience peace without limits and get to witness Isaiah’s promise about Yawheh come to pass.
John 14:27
Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
It can be challenging to see how you can find peace when facing difficult times. However, the disciple John teaches that true peace comes from God.
While family, friends, and other things of the world can seem to give you comfort, it’s all a facade. Cling to God and rely only on Him for this blessing.
This verse from the book of John also teaches you that God’s promise of peace doesn’t signal a lack of trouble. Instead, it instills confidence in you that despite the hard times, God will help you navigate the anxieties of the day by granting you peace beyond understanding. Just like He assures the disciples of his second coming, so does He provide you with the blessing of peace.
Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.
God wants His children to be the champions of peace. This verse falls within the Beatitudes which Christ Jesus used to teach His disciples. He emphasizes the need for all believers to bring about change through peace.
Whether you choose to avoid conflict or actively push for conflict resolution, God delights in Christians who work to build harmony across the community. And, He promises an eternal reward. You will forever be a child of God if you put this into practice.
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Are you in a desperate search for peace? God is the answer. Paul in this verse advises the Philippians on how to find and receive the peace of God.
And, the only true way is through making supplication, petitions, and giving thanksgiving to Jehovah. The Lord God delights in your requests. Always turn to Him no matter the situation and He will give you peace beyond human understanding.
Hebrews 12:14
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness, no one will see the Lord.
You can’t attain peace without effort. Paul uses this Bible verse to encourage believers to pursue peace because it doesn’t come automatically. It’s a product of continuous effort.
However, Paul goes deeper than that. He also urges Christians to stay Holy. The Apostle asserts that peace without holiness isn’t helpful. Without practicing both, you’ll not see the Lord.
Because of this, it’s vital that you pursue both so you can stay right with God. So, wherever you are, whatever you do, remember to fervently pursue holiness and peace. When Christians learn to live in peace, then no roots of evil can spring among them.
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.
From a young age, the Church teaches about the fruits of the Holy Spirit. And, one of them, is peace. Paul reaffirms this teaching by emphasizing that lacking this virtue will cause you to lose a position in God’s Kingdom.
So, how do you ensure you inherit God’s kingdom? You need to welcome the Holy Spirit in your life to be able to gain the fruit of Peace. Follow these instructions and you’re assured of this blessing.
