It’s easy for your life to be riddled with anxiety because you don’t know what tomorrow holds. Constant worry about the future can make you live a life of fear.
But this isn’t what God wants for you. The Bible contains beautiful reminders of why you shouldn’t live in fear. This blog features a collection of scriptures that will help you overcome fear and build your courage muscle.
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Even though this message was specifically for Joshua at the time, it can apply to your daily life.
It’s common to come across scary situations in your daily life. Be reminded that God is with you in all situations. And so, you’ve got nothing to fear.
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
This verse encourages you not to fear judgement or condemnation. Because God’s love has perfected everything that concerns you. His love for you is perfect and casts out all fear.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
The spirit of fear doesn’t come from God. Instead, he has equipped you with power and sound mind to help you overcome this destructive spirit. Yield to Him so you can move with boldness and wisdom. Practice faith over fear.
Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
This is a timely reminder that God is always with you even in the troubling and scary times. He promises to strengthen and uphold all believers in every situation. So be still and remember that He is God and He will never forsake you.
Psalms 34: 4-8
I sought the Lord and He answered me;
He delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to Him are radiant;
Their faces are never covered with shame.
God has the power to deliver you from all troubles. He simply implores you to call upon His name like David, and He will be quick to save you. So, why worry? Your heavenly Father is in control. Do not harbor the spirit of fear.
Matthew 6: 26-27
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
In this verse, God provides you with a practical example of how you should lead your life. Constant fear and worry won’t change your situation. Instead, it rids of joy.
You’re worth much more than the sparrow. Trust that He will provide for your needs. Look up to Him and make supplication and your requests known to the Lord. He will take care of you.
John 14: 25-27
All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Christ Jesus in this verse provides you with reassurance that even in His absence, He will leave you the gift of the Holy Spirit to instruct and guide you through the seasons of life. Even better, He grants you the blessing of peace which we all desire.
So, why do you let your heart be troubled or filled with worry? Rest in God’s abundant promises. He will provide for you despite life’s unexpected challenges.
Psalm 34:4
I sought the Lord, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.
This Bible verse is a timely reminder of God’s power. You only need to seek him and He will rescue you from all your troubles. Don’t dwell in fear. Turn to the Lord and He will make every crooked path straight.
Philippians 4: 6-7
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
Constantly reminding yourself to give gratitude and living a life of prayer is one of the best ways to stop living a life riddled with anxiety. God has the power to eliminate worry from your life. Make your worries and requests known to Him, and he will take care of the rest.
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
This verse is a reassurance of God’s saving grace during troubling times. All Christians of faith should aim to trust God as David did. It doesn’t matter what mountain you’re facing, trust that God will make a way and deliver you from all evil.
Be of Good Courage
Granted, fear is a natural response. However, if left to fester too long, it can cloud your judgment and cripple you from moving forward in life. The solution is to trust God with your life. You have the power to trample over this limitation.
You can find the phrase ‘Fear not’ quoted multiple times in the Bible. This isn’t a coincidence. It’s God’s daily reminder to Christians to put on the armor of courage and trust in Him. You need not fear when God is on your side.
